“Why, Sir, you find no man, at all intellectual, who is willing to leave London. No, Sir, when a man is tired of London, he is tired of life; for there is in London all that life can afford.”
— Samuel Johnson (1777)
I never tire of London my birth city. It is always a pleasure to spend a day walking the streets, recording London life by camera or drawing. Visiting a museum or gallery, people watching or enjoying the Thames as it flows through the vast city.
Here I have a few minutes to spare in South Kensington before an evening event. Whilst eating a sandwich sat on a bench, I take this sketch down of Thurloe Place. I was requested to submit it to a charity auction some months later and was glad to see that it fetched a healthy price for a my other love – Africa. A prisons project in Lusaka, Zambia.
